Our brand Squeaky Bean, famous for its category leading ready-to-eat meat alternatives, is expanding into the hot pie category with its first ever plant-based pie range.
The range stars two delicious recipes: the Squeaky Bean Braised Veggie Pie and Squeaky Bean Spanish Chorizo Style Pie.
The first-to-market pies feature fermented vegetables, launched in response to growing demand for whole foods among health-conscious consumers, with 41% of plant-based shoppers citing natural ingredients as a key purchase driver [1].
Fermentation is used to unlock rich, savoury flavours from the vegetables, delivering the kind of umami depth typically associated with meat, but using only real veg.
Squeaky Bean Braised Veggie Pie and Squeaky Bean Spanish Chorizo Style Pie (209g, £3.75 RRP) are available nationwide in Tesco.
The pies offer a flavour-packed, vegetable-forward alternative to traditional meat pies. Made with high-quality, gut-friendly ingredients, they’re a perfect choice for shoppers seeking a delicious chilled ready-to-cook pie – whether vegan, vegetarian or flexitarian.
Squeaky Bean’s Braised Veggie Pie recipe stars fermented vegetables including chestnut mushrooms, beetroot and onion, complete with a puff pastry lid. The addition of a rich stout gravy and warming spices make it an indulgent and comforting meal. The Spanish Chorizo Style Pie celebrates Mediterranean flavours, combining creamy butter beans, courgettes and a fermented vegetable filling, also topped with golden puff pastry. The inclusion of butter beans marks the beginning of a new direction for the brand, with more bean-based innovation to come!
The new range also features bold, eye-catching packaging, designed with a deep colour palette that reflects the richness and depth of the pies themselves, and provides strong stand-out on shelves.
Designed to be oven-cooked and ready in 30 minutes, the pies are ideal as a hearty main course. They pair perfectly with seasonal greens for a convenient weeknight dinner, or a cosy autumn Sunday lunch.
Yvonne Adam, Chief Marketing Officer at The Compleat Food Group, home of Squeaky Bean, said: “At Squeaky Bean, we’re always looking for ways to inject plant-based excitement into other categories, and we identified an opportunity with pies. The hot pie category is now worth £424m [2] and vegan pies are growing at over 14% in value [3], so it’s the perfect time for us to bring something new to the table.
“We’ve taken inspiration from the growing consumer appetite for natural ingredients and veg-focused products, utilising incredibly flavoursome fermented ingredients to create something truly craveable. At The Compleat Food Group, we’re proud to be innovating food to feel good.”
The launch will be supported by a social media campaign, influencer collaborations, and in-store tasting activations, helping to drive awareness, engagement and trial among both loyal fans and new consumers.
