100 years of Baking with Pride
We’ve partnered with renowned local chef, Thom Bateman, to create a special edition Centenary Chicken and Leek Pie.
We’re improving the Wrights stores with fascia updates and in-store upgrades. Plus, we’re holding lots of exciting local store events this year.
We’re proud to support our local hospice, Dougie Mac – a charity close to our hearts. Five team members are taking the sponsored leap!
From a doorstep in Stoke-on-Trent to a national brand loved across the UK, for 100 years Wrights has baked with quality, care and pride.
This centenary celebrates everyone who’s been part of that journey, from John James (Jack) & Lizzie Wright to the dedicated teams who continue to bake the Wrights Way today.
In 1926, Jack and Lizzie Wright began selling Meat & Potato Pies from their doorstep in Stoke-on-Trent. During the Great Strike their heartfelt cooking became more than food, they were a lifeline for their local community.
Their first shop opened on Hope Street and quickly became a local staple. Wrights grew through word of mouth, and the warmth of its pies, sausage rolls and pastries soon earned them loyal customers across Shelton, Burslem, Hanley and Tunstall.
Even after Lizzie’s passing, Jack and his new wife Lilly built a three-storey bakery at home, ready to serve the community by baking with care, never compromise.
Baking with care
At Wrights, doing things properly isn’t a choice, it’s who we are. From our earliest days, we’ve believed that shortcuts have no place in baking. Every pie, pasty, and roll is made with care, pride, and a commitment to quality.
Innovation, creativity and a dash of daring.
Peter Wright (junior) joined the family business in 1981 and brought a fresh spark to Wrights. He didn’t just lead, he listened, learned and innovated.
From pioneering frozen Bake-Off savouries to introducing the Burger Bar, he transformed how we serve our customers. And nothing captures the Wrights spirit more than our famous Chicken Balti Pie. Born one night in the kitchen of Peter’s favourite Indian restaurant, it blended authentic flavours with our signature pastry.
Every new idea and every new recipe has one thing in common, it’s about believing in better and that better matters.
That’s the Wrights Way!
Wrights has grown from a single doorstep bakery to a national brand, but our values have never changed.
Today, we work with hundreds of customers and have developed more than 500 recipes, investing millions in our people, products and sustainability along the way.
