Shift Manager  – Chilled Food Production

Location: Nottingham
Salary: £45,000 – £46,000 + Benefits
Shifts: 6am – 18pm Wednesday to Saturday, every third Wednesday off (Saturday is a shorter shift)
Reporting to: Factory Manager for Shift Pattern

The Role

We’re looking for an energetic and hands-on Shift Manager to join our large fast-paced chilled food production site in Nottingham.
In this key factory leadership role at The Compleat Food Group, you’ll support the Factory Manager in driving the efficient, safe, and effective running of our high-speed production area. You’ll lead and inspire a large and diverse talented team to deliver safe, high-quality products for most of the UK retailers on time, every time – while fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and World-class operational excellence.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Champion safety first: Drive a proactive safety culture, ensuring full compliance with H&S and environmental standards through near-miss reporting and root-cause investigations.

  • Deliver performance: Lead and coordinate daily production activities to achieve plan attainment with maximum quality, efficiency, and OEE.

  • Lead your team: Motivate, coach, and develop team members through training, feedback, and appraisals to unlock their full potential.

  • Problem-solve on the go: Maintain a strong shop-floor presence, ensuring smooth operations, fast issue resolution, and effective communication across departments.

  • Uphold standards: Maintain GMP and food safety compliance, taking swift action on any non-conformances or quality issues.

  • Optimise resources: Manage rotas, staffing, and training plans to meet business needs and support succession planning.

  • Drive improvement: Use data to identify bottlenecks, reduce waste, and implement Operational Excellence initiatives that enhance productivity.

  • Communicate & collaborate: Deliver effective shift handovers, team briefings, and contribute to site-wide improvement projects and reports.

  • Lead by example: Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and high performance across the production floor.

Who We’re Looking For

Qualifications:

  • Level 3 Food Safety & Hygiene (essential)

  • Essential Hygiene and Chemical Awareness

  • Level 2 HACCP

  • Strong communication skills in English

Experience:

  • Proven experience in a similar supervisory or management role within chilled food manufacturing

  • Track record of leading and developing diverse production teams

Key Skills & Knowledge:

  • Deep understanding of H&S, Food Safety, BRC and UK retailer standards

  • Strong people leadership and communication skills

  • Passionate about quality, safety, and continuous improvement

  • Analytical, commercially aware and IT confident (Microsoft Office proficiency)

  • Self-motivated, hands-on and calm under pressure

  • Full UK Driving Licence

Desirable Skills:

  • IOSH accredited

  • Engineering background / technical understanding

  • Project Management or Operational Excellence experience

  • Level 4 Food Safety & Hygiene / HACCP Level 3–4
