The Compleat Food Group

We believe that businesses like ours have a responsibility and opportunity to create social value for the people we work with and the communities in which we operate.

We consider social value to be our full contribution to society, including the economic, social and environmental outcomes we create. It’s built around the products we make for our customers and consumers, the way we work with our colleagues, the way we source our products and work with our suppliers, the way we interact with the environment and our local communities, and the way we invest in programmes for society as a whole.

By 2035 we’ll be a business that has scaled our social value tenfold. Read our progress in our ESG report.

Creating a More Equitable Society

Investing a fair share of our resources to add long-term value for our local and wider communities.

Community

As a leading food business, we’ve an important opportunity to use our resources and influence to help shape a more equitable society.

Fundraising, education, and charity donations are a key part of our business. Our work to address food waste goes hand-in-hand with initiatives to alleviate hunger, with our FareShare food redistribution partnership helping to provide meals to those in need within our local communities. Through our unearthed® brand we’re also partnered with Action Against Hunger, supporting children suffering from life-threatening malnutrition.

To track our progress towards our goal of increasing our social value tenfold, we measure our social value in hours of responsible business activity, which includes volunteering.

Our Targets

  • 200,000 hours of responsible business activities by 2035

Our charity partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan Cancer Support

We launched our charity partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support in June 2024, with the aim of raising £100,000 every year to support people living with and affected by cancer. We wanted to ensure that every colleague has the chance to get involved, so we set up a charity champion network across all sites and Wrights Pie shops. We’re over the moon with the incredible support and engagement shown by colleagues who’ve taken on marathon distances up and down the country in Macmillan Mighty Hikes, showcased their baking skills for Macmillan’s Coffee Morning and we’ve seen some amazing personal fundraising challenges too.

The number of people being diagnosed with cancer is rising and more people are surviving cancer than ever before.

  • Right now, more than 3 million people are living with cancer in the UK. By 2030 this figure will rise to 4 million.
  • 1 in 2 of us will get a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime.

We’re excited to announce that we’ll continue to support Macmillan as our charity partner until March 2028, and we can’t wait to see what more we can achieve to support people living with cancer over the next few years.
