We are thrilled to share a significant milestone in our journey toward environmental sustainability and corporate responsibility. Our ambitious targets to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040 have been officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Our commitment to reach net zero across our operations and value chain aligns with the most ambitious goal set by the Paris Agreement—keeping global warming to 1.5°C.
Our targets validated by the SBTi include a 50% reduction in scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions from our operations by 2030, alongside a 50% reduction in scope 3 emissions from our wider supply chain within the same timeframe. These will help us further reduce emissions to the level required to keep global warming to 1.5 oC, the most ambitious goal set by the Paris Agreement.
These targets are integral to our broader strategy, which includes achieving Net Zero scope 1 and 2 emissions in our operations by 2035 and scope 3 emissions from our value chain by 2040. As we work toward these goals, we are committed to several key priorities outlined in our ESG strategy:
Reducing Food Waste: A 50% reduction in food waste by 2030 as part of the Courtauld 2030 commitment.
Sustainable Packaging: Annual reductions in packaging consumption, with a goal for 100% of our packaging to be recyclable or reusable by 2025 in line with the WRAP UK Plastics Pact.
Supporting High Welfare Methods: Supporting our suppliers in transitioning to nature-positive, high welfare methods of production with 100% traceability and zero deforestation.
We are excited to announce that our journey and progress toward these goals, along with broader targets related to social value and governance, will be comprehensively detailed in our groups first sustainability report, scheduled for release in May 2024.
As one of the UK’s leading food groups, our responsibility goes beyond producing great food and as a group, we are committed to creating a better, fairer future for all through bold actions and transformative goals.
This approval by the SBTi marks a crucial step in our commitment to creating a responsibly sourced, regenerative food system that delivers on our mission to create Food to Feel Good.
