Investing in ESG Capabilities with new head of ESG

We’re making a major investment in our ESG capabilities with the appointment of David Moore as our first Group Head of ESG, alongside an ongoing business-wide upskilling campaign that will deliver certified climate literacy programmes to 100 senior leaders and key suppliers.

David, who was previously Senior Technical Manager at Winterbotham Darby (now part of our newly formed brand Compleat Food Group) brings with him over 20 years of experience working in the food production industry. Previous roles include Senior Business Development Manager at Oritain; Head of Technical at New England Seafood, and he also spent over eight years at Sainsbury’s in various technical roles.

His role will be to lead on the development and delivery of our ESG Impact Strategy, as our newly formed group seeks to create great quality, tasty food in a sustainable way that delivers a positive impact on the world.

To achieve this, in addition to committing to set an approved science-based target on our journey to Net Zero and measuring and reporting on our social value, we are aiming to ensure climate competency is rooted in every team and function within the business, with our senior exec team participating in a CPD Climate & Net Zero learning series.

On his appointment, David said: “When the opportunity presented itself to take on a role that focuses on tackling the challenges of today, from climate change to affordability, and that I could play a part in helping the business to deliver a better future for generations to come, I had to accept the task.

“Coming from a technical background with over 20 years’ experience in the food sector, working with parties at all stages of the supply chain, from customers to suppliers, to internal and external stakeholders, I can provide a holistic view on how we drive forwards our ESG Impact Strategy as a new organisation. We have a long way to go, but ESG is so important to us, our customers, and consumers, and we’re looking forward to including everyone in our journey to learn and develop together.”

Paul Monk, Executive Chair, added: “This wider investment in our ESG capabilities and talent is a signal of our ambition to be a leader in sustainable practices, making The Compleat Food Group a great company to work with for employees, customers, and supply chain partners.

“We know our responsibility goes beyond producing good food, so our focus is to have a positive impact on the world around us, maximising the social, economic, and environmental well-being of the communities we are part of.”
