Are you an experienced Engineering Manager with a passion for food manufacturing and world-class operational excellence? We are looking for a dynamic leader to join our Middlesbrough site and drive the engineering function forward. This is a key leadership role where you will use your advanced engineering knowledge and commitment to continuous improvement to help us achieve our ambitious business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

As the Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our site operates efficiently, safely, and in line with food safety and quality standards. You will lead a talented engineering team, implement best practices, and foster a culture of continuous improvement across the business.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Asset Care & Maintenance: Develop and manage a comprehensive asset care and maintenance programme for our building, plant, and services, ensuring compliance with food safety, technical, and legislative standards.
  • Health & Safety Leadership: Champion SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) compliance within the engineering function. You will lead site safety activities, address issues, and ensure full adherence to SHE standards.
  • Food Safety & Quality: Ensure that food safety, quality, and integrity are at the forefront of everything we do. Implement engineering systems that uphold and improve food safety and product quality standards.
  • Financial Performance & Cost Management: Monitor and report on engineering spend, controlling performance against budgets. You will regularly review and report on the site’s engineering budgetary performance, identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Operational Efficiency: Record and monitor key metrics within the engineering function, including equipment availability, labour utilisation, PPM adherence, Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF). Ensure downtime is tracked and improvements are continuously driven.
  • Project Management & Delivery: Lead continuous improvement projects that enhance engineering operations and deliver cost-saving results. Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget, while meeting agreed-upon site standards for asset performance and food safety.
  • Team Development & Resource Management: Foster a positive work environment, developing the engineering team to reach their full potential. Identify and nurture talent, ensuring your team has the skills, tools, and support they need to excel.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience in an engineering management role within the food manufacturing industry, ideally in a chilled environment.
  • A strong understanding of food safety, quality, and legislative standards, with a commitment to maintaining the highest levels of integrity.
  • Demonstrated experience managing asset care/maintenance programmes and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent leadership skills with a focus on team development, coaching, and fostering a positive work culture.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets and report on performance.
  • Expertise in health and safety compliance, with the ability to lead site safety initiatives and ensure compliance with SHE regulations.
  • Strong project management skills, with a track record of delivering engineering projects on time and within budget.
